A poem inspired by the mythology created by Henry Darger…
One day,
After the seven Vivian girls grow up in the realms of the ‘real,
And wonderland becomes dull and predictable,
I might stop crying wolf in the presence of dogs,
Maybe one day when Peter Pan falls down from the sky and lands on his ass,
I will tell no more lies,
I will let down no more,
Days bring years along, and when they come, they linger for 365 days,
And when they leave again, for new years to come, they take away whatever expired in and about oneself,
My years take away people around me,
My days take years, like tides, and jetsam tears,
It all goes into an ocean of expired goods,
And we all forget how to swim once we stroke into past tense,
In the middle, water seems darker,
Life seems larger,
Than the life’s work of Henry Darger.

The Vivian girls.
